In the shadow of Southeast Asia’s bustling cities, a dark reality thrives—human trafficking. It preys on the vulnerable, shattering lives, stealing innocence, and leaving scars that run deeper than words can express. But amidst the suffering and pain, there is a place where hope breaks through.

At Gabrielle House in Chiang Rai, Thailand, these stories take a turn toward redemption. For almost 15 years, this sanctuary, supported by Hand of Hope, Joyce Meyer Ministries world missions, has been a place where broken lives are pieced back together. Here, because of your amazing support, shattered dreams are restored, dignity reclaimed, and futures rediscovered in the light of Christ’s love.

Home to nearly 30 young women rescued from dangers like forced labor and sexual exploitation, Gabrielle House offers more than shelter. It’s a haven where healing begins, skills are learned, and the love of God transforms lives. The stories of the women who have found refuge here are a testament to resilience and courage.

From Heartbreak to Hope

For 20-year-old New, Gabrielle House was her saving grace. Tears filled her eyes as she described the impact of the program: “I realized that God is real through the love I received here and the care the people gave me.”

New’s life today is a stark contrast to the hardship she endured. Born in a small village in Myanmar, her childhood was marked by a father and brother addicted to drugs, constant fights, and a home filled with pain. At just 14, she left in search of a better life, hoping to escape poverty and the drug trade of the Golden Triangle.

Her journey led her to Thailand, where she worked tirelessly to survive. From housekeeping to a short-lived stint at a hair salon, she faced exploitation and abuse. Desperation brought her to a pineapple plantation, where she toiled alongside her younger sister. Even amidst these struggles, New sought more, attending Chinese classes whenever she could.

It was through the Christian owner of the school where New first heard about Gabrielle House. Initially, she visited the safe haven for her sister’s sake, but something stirred within her when she met the staff and learned about their mission.

“I decided to stay too,” she said. That decision changed everything.

“Since I’ve been here, this place has made me more mature and courageous,” New shared. “Before, I was shy and afraid, but now I feel bold and understand life better.”

In the safety of Gabrielle House, New found freedom—not just from her past but also in her present. She discovered a passion for sewing and dreams of one day opening a shop that combines sewing and hairdressing.

“When I wake up, I feel safe. I don’t have to fear anything,” she said, tears welling up. “Outside, life is full of pressure. Here, it’s different.”

But the greatest transformation has been her faith.

“My life has completely changed. I was Buddhist, but since I accepted the Lord, everything changed in my life.” Today, New dreams of a brighter future alongside her little sister, Mina, who has also come to faith in Jesus.

Finding Worth

Fifteen-year-old Mimi’s life has also been transformed through Gabrielle House. Born in Myanmar, Mimi’s parents favored her little brother, leaving her feeling undervalued simply because she was a girl. Her childhood was spent looking after her brother while her mother worked. Feeling neglected, Mimi grew distant and was sent to work at a kindergarten, putting in long hours and making only $3 per month.

After running away, Mimi’s cousin brought her to Gabrielle House. It was here that she found not only safety but also faith. Despite her Muslim background, Mimi’s heart became open to the Gospel as she experienced a newfound sense of peace and saw God answer her prayers. She received Christ and decided to get baptized.

“I found out that God’s love is better than what I thought,” she said with a smile.

Mimi dreams of opening her own sewing shop so she can help support her family and build a future where she feels valued and loved.

“My life has worth now,” she shared. “I wanted to know who Jesus is, and I found Him here!”

These young women at Gabrielle House are living proof that broken lives can be made whole again. Scars are transformed into stability, and despair gives way to dreams. Their stories remind us of the immense power of love—love that does not judge, love that does not abandon, and love that restores worth to those who felt discarded.

Partners of Joyce Meyer Ministries, it’s your love—your prayers and incredible support—that makes Gabrielle House possible. And for these courageous women, it’s the place where hope isn’t just a word…it’s their future.
