Seek the Most Excellent Thing @tag1>

Adapted from Mornings with God
Now about the spiritual gifts (the special endowments of supernatural energy), brethren, I do not want you to be misinformed.
In today’s verse, Paul writes about the importance of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He explains this in verses 4–10. At the end of his lesson, he writes, And I will show you a still more excellent way (1 Corinthians 12:31 ESV). In the next verse, which begins 1 Corinthians 13, he begins his instruction on love and its characteristics. I want us to focus on one sentence in 1 Corinthians 13:5 (ESV), which says that love does not insist on its own way. Love is not selfish.
Love gives and focuses on making others happy; it is not self-seeking. As I have mentioned, it is impossible to be happy and selfish at the same time, so if you are unhappy, you might want to do a heart check to see if the problem is selfishness.
God has created us to reach out to others and work for what will benefit them, not to focus on ourselves and only think of what will benefit us. Love is something that can be seen and felt, and it is what every person in the world needs. If we give it away, we will find it coming back to us (Galatians 6:7).
Each day, take some time to think about what you can do for someone. If you can’t think of anything, ask God to show you something. He may not answer immediately, but He will in due time. Decide to be ready whenever He calls and be assured that your happiness will increase.
Prayer of the Day: Lord, help me to look for ways to be a blessing to others to help other people, to love selflessly, and focusing on their happiness rather than my own. Thank You for always taking care of me!
