Tornados Rip Across Southern U.S.

Fifty-six people were killed February 5 and 6, 2008, after tornados tore through Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky. It was the deadliest U.S. tornado outbreak since the mid-1980’s.

Hurricane-force winds ripped apart homes, overturned trucks and trapped residents of university dorms and a retirement home in debris.

The trail of death stretched across 4 states, with 5 people killed in Alabama, 31 in Tennessee, 7 in Kentucky, and 13 in Arkansas.

In Clinton, Arkansas, Joyce Meyer Ministries is reaching out to offer both help and hope to those affected by the disaster.

Our Response to This Crisis
We are supporting the work of Service International, which has formed a rapid response team to help meet the needs of the community in Clinton.

Since February 8, the Service International team has been clearing debris, cutting down trees in the city and repairing the roof of the Pee Dee Baptist Church.

Pee Dee Baptist Church, established in 1881, is providing lodging and meals for the Service International team.

In the following week, Service International anticipates sending another team of volunteers to the Mountain View area of Arkansas to help survivors clear debris from their streets and homes.
