Help Save the National Day of Prayer

The Freedom from Religion Foundation wants to take away your constitutional right to pray in public. Their goal is to silence the voice of the Christian. One of their strategies to accomplish this is to legally ban the observance of the National Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer Task Force now must spend time defending our nation’s tradition of prayer because of this outrageous lawsuit. The good news is the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is defending them free of charge. It’s our prayer that the federal courts won’t give this lawsuit the time of day. In fact, ADF attorneys have asked for the suit to be thrown out. Unfortunately, it’s been dragging on for months already because of the necessary process through the federal courts.
Here’s how you can help keep the National Day of Prayer alive!

America’s Prayer LegacyThe National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history.

The National Day of Prayer has great significance for us as a nation. It enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our Founding Fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions. It stands as a call to us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people.

Like Thanksgiving or Christmas, this day has become a national observance placed on all calendars and observed annually across the nation—including Washington, D.C. In the past, local, state and federal observances were held from sunrise in Maine to sunset in Hawaii, uniting Americans from all socioeconomic, political, and ethnic backgrounds in prayer for our nation. At state capitols, county courthouses, on the steps of city halls, and in schools, businesses, churches and homes, people stopped their activities and gathered for prayer.

Let’s work together to keep America’s prayer legacy alive and well. We cannot allow this important national observance to be taken from us. If enough Christians will take the time to let their voices be heard, then our leaders will know that the National Day of Prayer is important to us and something that we want to continue.
