It's the big day, and Sim (pronounced seem) waits expectantly for a staff member to come pick her up and bring her to our ministry-supported orphanage in Phnom Penh. At only twelve years old, Sim has experienced more hardship than most people endure in a lifetime.
Like many other children in Cambodia, she worked hard to help support her poverty-stricken family. But it wasn't enough. Sim's father eventually died of starvation, tearing the family apart and leaving her with nowhere else to go except for the streets...and the streets of Cambodia are no place for a little girl. But today is the first day of her new life. And in just a little while, Sim will leave all of the fear and poverty behind—forever.
Thanks to our friends and partners, Joyce Meyer Ministries has been able
to provide a fresh start for Sim and more than a thousand other precious
young boys and girls all across Asia. Spanning the nations of India, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, and Myanmar, your support has allowed us to fully fund and operate forty-one orphanages that have rescued these children from unimaginable circumstances.
For just $21 a month, we are able to provide a child with a loving atmosphere, home-cooked meals and a safe environment. But that's not all. Your support also allows us to equip them with two of the greatest keys for lifelong success—a quality education and instruction in the Word of God.
“We believe our work would all be worth it just to save one child,” says
David L. Meyer, CEO of World Missions for Joyce Meyer Ministries. |
"But the truth is, with the help of our friends and partners, we are rescuing hundreds of precious lives that will be transformed both now and for eternity...and we could never thank them enough."
Today, placed in her new home, Sim is now a different child. Happy, healthy, and free to be a little girl, she laughs and plays and shows few signs of the painful life she left behind.
And so it is for many all across Asia who now have hope. The support you have sent to Joyce Meyer Ministries has reached around the world and into the hearts of these boys and girls. And today they are healthy children, loved children... your children. Friends and partners, thank you for all that you have done to breathe new life and new hope into such desperate situations. Together, with your help, we are reaching Asia one precious child at a time.

I knew when that first little boy looked up at me and smiled with his wide grin and sparkling eyes that my
heart would forever be here. I had never been to this
part of Asia before. So many children in India,
South America, and Africa had already captured
my heart, yet somehow, each new time overwhelms me. This time it was Cambodia. I shouldn't be surprised
at the capacity Christ gives us to love, but sometimes
I still am. How can these children, so far from home,
seem as precious to me as my own?
We flew into Bangkok, Thailand, where the ministry operates several orphanages and feeding programs. From there we traveled on to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where we visited more feeding programs and more children receiving full care in Joyce Meyer Ministries' children's homes. Yet no matter how many we visit, they never blur together. Each location, each child tugs on our hearts. And nearly always there is a divine connection with
that special child that God supernaturally connects to my heart. There was little Blessy in India, Pepe in Swaziland, and now Leap in Cambodia.
Leap (pronounced lee-up) was basically alone in
the world at the age of seven. Her father died and her mother was hit by a car and permanently disabled,
unable to care for her children. Leap was unable to go to school, and she used to work hard in the fields every day, looking for enough food to sell in the market.
When Leap arrived at our orphanage just three short months ago, she was very thin, and she would never smile. When they dressed her in new clothes, she was shocked. She said they were the first new clothes she had ever owned, and she thought they were beautiful. Most of all, she couldn't believe they had food every day. Slowly she began coming out of her shell, laughing and playing with the other children. Now she is learning to read and write and is experiencing the love of Christ for the first time.
Most disturbing is the life that Leap was most likely spared. Cambodia can be a dark place for a little one. Child labor is the norm, and the youngest of children work hard to try to help feed their family. Still, many can't make it, and as families are starving, it is not uncommon for parents to grow desperate enough to sell their own children. These children, and many others on
the streets, become part of the nation's thriving sex industry. This precious little girl, now grinning on my lap, could so easily have been trapped in a situation I can't even imagine.
Joyce Meyer Ministries' orphanages are rescuing children
in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and throughout Asia...and there is so much more to do. For every Leap we meet, I can't help but think of the many other children we have yet to reach. And for every smiling child that looks up at me, my heart breaks one more time. I'm reminded of just how blessed I am to be involved with a ministry that is doing so much to help them—and to be doing it hand in hand with people just like you.
