Missions
Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes against humanity. Victims are typically recruited using coercion, deception, fraud, abuse of power or outright abduction. The majority are women and children who have no one to protect them.
Young women and children are forced into prostitution, manual labor, illegal international adoption, early marriages or warfare. Many are held in bondage and beaten to suppress resistance.
Our goal is to rescue these victims of human trafficking and show them that they are precious and loved by God. That's why we operate children's homes and feeding programs in countries like India and Ethiopia.
Through our feeding program in the red-light district of Mumbai, India, our workers establish relationships with the children and their mothers, many of whom are prostitutes.
We eventually offer these women and children an escape from this horrible lifestyle through our Transformation Center. Once at the Transformation Center, they are given a safe place to live, taught about Christ and trained to support their family. And when a family has been transformed and trained, they are moved to a new community where they can establish their new life.
In Ethiopia, we send a team into the red-light district of the capital city, Addis Ababa. Here the teams approach the prostitutes and offer to talk and pray with them. We tell them how much God loves them. Most of the prostitutes are timid at first but eventually open up to receive prayer as they learn to trust our team.
Our goal is to offer them an opportunity to have a new life. When they agree to leave the red-light district, our volunteers move them out of their tiny rooms-along with their children if they have them-and into one of our two women's homes. Here they receive counseling, job training, housing, food and other necessary things for them to recover from their previous life.
In 2010, we provided escape for over 100 women and children in India and Ethiopia.
Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith.
