Flood Relief in the Midwest

Floods Recede as Volunteers Begin Clean Up
Recent floods in the American Midwest have taken the lives of 16 people and forced thousands to evacuate their homes.

It has also caused millions of dollars in damage and left thousands with the daunting task of rebuilding and cleaning up the mess left behind. Missouri, in particular, was hit especially hard, with 70 counties reporting flood conditions.

Our Response to This Crisis
Because of our friends and partners, Joyce Meyer Ministries is able to provide financial assistance to Service International, a disaster relief organization. Teams are bringing immediate aid to the residents of Pacific, Missouri, a small community just 35 minutes southwest of St. Louis.

Gladys Lewis, who is in her seventies and is enduring her third flood, is just one of many receiving help. With up to 18 inches of standing water on the main level and a flooded basement, her home needed to be completely gutted. Thanks to donations from Joyce Meyer Ministries’ friends and partners, a burden has been lifted for the Lewis family.

“I could say ‘thank you’ but it doesn’t seem like enough. There are no words to describe how appreciative we are,” shares Lonnie, Gladys’ son who is taking care of his mom while she is displaced because of the flooding.

More than 200 volunteers, many from the St. Louis Dream Center, a missions outreach of Joyce Meyer Ministries, have shown up to trek through the mud and cold weather to remove flooring, rip out drywall and cabinetry, clean up debris, and prepare the homes for reconstruction.

“We just want to come and bring hope and some peace of mind to the homeowners who are feeling desperate and don’t have anywhere to turn. I am glad to be a part of an organization that brings love and hope to others,” shares Clint Belinsky, one of 32 site managers working in Pacific.

During the first 2 days alone, volunteers were able to help 30 different homes and businesses damaged or ruined by flood waters from the Meramec River. But there is still work ahead, and the volunteers are ready and willing to keep working.
