Offering New Life to Those Who Need a Second Chance

Millions crowd prisons around the globe, but nearly half of them never even receive a visitor. In 2008, our team entered hundreds of prisons around the world...sharing the Gospel and showing them there’s more than one way to be free.

In 2008, our prison ministry team personally distributed hygiene gift bags—containing soap, shampoo, and one of Joyce’s books—to the incarcerated in 294 prisons, spanning Puerto Rico, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, the Cayman Islands and nine U.S. states. More than 6,500 gave their lives to Christ.

High-quality products like soap and shampoo are something most prisoners can’t afford...and they are often the very thing that opens their hearts to reading the enclosed book. During many of our visits, God also provides opportunities for us to hold services, preach the Gospel message, and share His love with those who are incarcerated.

"The Puerto Rico 108"
One of the prisons in Puerto Rico was a youth facility, housing 108 juvenile offenders. But instead of looking into the faces of hardened criminals, our team found themselves staring at nine and ten year olds. One boy was only eight.

Although the superintendent was leery of a fight breaking out, he gave Roy Lormis, Joyce Meyer Ministries Prison Supervisor, the opportunity to share a message. As he spoke, the children listened intently, and the Lord began working on their hearts. Then, when he finished, all 108 boys and girls prayed with our team to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. That day, there was no yelling or fighting...only the sound of praying and words of gratitude.

"Gracias," they would each say, as we later gave them the hygiene products and a book. We knew they were truly thankful...and that there young lives would never be the same.

"Friends and partners, you just have no idea what your support is accomplishing in some of the most forgotten places on earth. When we get to heaven, I know thousands upon thousands will say, "'Thank you! I am a life that is changed because you chose to give.'"
